    Default I am new here

I've been reading the forums for a few months. A couple of weeks ago I got started on my first website a rakeback site with PAS.

I started out knowing almost zero about web design, SEO or really anything that might be of value other than experience playing and being around online poker since its inception back in the Planet Poker days.

I started this project more as a way to learn about building websites then making money as an affiliate. I see now though that being a web site builder is not all that valuable a skill, as you can have it outsourced for such a cheap price.

So that leads me to my question, what is the money skill as an online marketer for poker or anything for that matter?

It seems to me in my study so far and seeing the amount of time I waste with Web building and mundane SEO stuff like directory submissions ect. That there really is no big value in getting good at this stuff.

am I wrong in my thinking that I should not worry about this stuff too much and focus on becoming an awesome or even above average creator of content?

I guess I am hoping this is the answer because of everything I've been working on to try to get this website going I enjoy the writing, making videos and thinking about marketing strategies. Can I eventually be sucessful, 5k+ per mo. in a couple years, by just doing content and outsiourcing the rest?

I did start out using Joomla instead of WordPress and that might have made my learning a bit more difficult as far as web design ect.

Anyhow getting long would appreciate any input thank you, Sean

Money Skills = SEO or some other method of driving traffic to your site. Whether that be marketing offline, PPC, advertising, etc.

You can have the greatest content in the world, but if nobody can find it, what good is it? That doesn't mean content isn't important, as it DEFINITELY is.

As for the question can you make 5k per month... DEFINITELY, but why set your goals so low Check this poll out or this article written by one of the members here for example to get a better understanding of what you can make.

    Good luck!

    Hey Graham,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I read those articles you linked and am glad to see you can make some real money with this affiliate work.

It makes me kind of sad that I didn't start much earlier, oh well. I guess I had better get busy now.

Thanks for the Tip about SEO being the money skill. I have alot to learn.

    Thanks again,
    Sean

    Great Tips Graham,

TBH, to the OP, I wouldn't waste much time on that PAP thread. Apart from the poll, which is OK, the rest of the thread is an abortion. It's a ghost town over there.

Most of the ballers are here these days. I think we ran a similar poll on PAL, and had a few folks check the >200K per month option. At least we had a much larger sample size, with a lot more over the 10K mark.

Another skill-set I would recommend is scaling. This goes hand in hand with outsourcing and I find it is one of the key skills needed to succeed.

    Seb
