Default Keeping it simple and grind!

So I got started with setting up my own poker affiliate site this week.

So far I have got the domain and written 5 articles. I'm thinking of either designing or just buying a very simple design, sign up with PAS (or with the poker rooms directly) and just LEAVE it for at least few months.

In the next few months (since I can do this full time) I will just keep pumping out those 3-4 quality articles per day to start getting traffic. I will get a better and slicker design once I get good traffic.

Any thoughts on that? Is pure content what I should be focusing on in the next few months? How about backlinks or any other SEO stuff I should focus on aside from writing content and just target those key words?

    Thanks

If you can do this full-time, I would absolutely be starting a variety of sites right now, hosted on a variety of servers, all with different keyword, content and monetization focuses.

Then, in a few months / year, you'll have a much better idea of what works for you and also won't be stuck to just one project that may not be working / making money / of interest to you any longer.

Thanks! So all the sites would appear to be doing the same thing on the surface. However we will be targeting different keywords with our content for each site? i.e. one site to target all Pot Limit Omaha strategy keywords and one site to target all Razz strategy keywords?

Surely if I target all those keywords but on the same site it will achieve the same thing? Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't say you'd surely achieve the same thing... There are a lot of variables and with just one site you'll have a lot more risk... If anything happens to a single site you could be back to square one after a year... If you spread out the risk it'll involve more work, but you won't have to worry about losing all of your income if something happens to one site... You may not want to break it down by game though... You may want to try having 1 site for bonus keywords, 1 site for mobile poker keywords, 1 site for strategy, etc (Just examples)... That way you can test out several different niches to find out what niches are the most profitable for you and then you can spend more time focusing on the site/s making money down the road... You don't have to build all the sites at once, but it's smart to diversify a bit and not have all your eggs in one basket...

One advantage of having multiple sites is that you can help create your own backlinks.

My biggest mistake was focusing on just a few sites in the same niche. If you want to be in this business long term and don't want to take a high risk approach (imagine you created a full tilt poker rakeback site where you made most of your money...) you have to pick 2 or more niches and launch a couple of sites each while focussing on just a few money sites (doesn't make any sense to launch 10 rakeback sites, better go with 1 main site and 9 supporting ones)

In a non-poker niche which has been working very nicely for me, I am just launching 15 sites, each one of them focused on one country. Each site on a local domain extension, different server. Do keyword research for the main terms in that niche for each language, then have app. 10 - 15 articles written for those keywords, have them translated to suit the various keywords in all the languages. So basically xx copies of same site for each language (except for variations in keywords).
Start building links then (mostly within own network of sites, bookmarking, article submissions), first 12 months reinvest all revs in new links, some into new content.
Expenses to start with per site:
    Hosting 2 years: $100
    Content: $100
    so total $3000 investment.
Revenue goal after 12 months: $2000 monthly
