Default If your new to being a poker affiliate

I see a lot of new affiliates asking questions. I still regard myself as new but thought of the following for the newer affiliates.

Now that you found this forum, read, read and read more. It has a wealth of knowledgeable people posting. I’m a year in and still read and learn something daily.

If you think it’s an easy industry to get into and want results quickly you best find another industry.

If you have offers of hooking up on MSN and such like do so. I have a few on mine who I bugged the life out of (thank you) and still do. But remember they are normally a busy lot and they are giving you advice for free. So add as many as you can.

When asking for reviews don’t ask for anyone to be gentle. If you want to get on, expect the knocks. A ‘gentle’ review won’t hit home as effectively as a non gentle review. You are asking those who have had years of experience and know what they are talking about. They are seeing your site with expert fresh eyes. I had a few gentle reviews but it wasn’t till I had the brutal ones my site turned around.

Be prepared for hard work and some long hours. The likes of Jeremy didn’t get to where they are today by putting the odd hour in now and again.

So true on all accounts! Reviews are meant to provide open, honest, and objective feedback. They're not designed to be personal attacks, nor should they be interpreted as such.

I recall going through "sales training" at the first brokerage I worked for. We had to get in front of the class and do a presentation on a mutual fund of choice. After the presentation, the class, along with 6 of the instructors gave us "feedback." The natural reaction when one gets "feedback" of this sort is to get defensive, as if it is a personal attack. After all, it does feel like it at times, especially when you're in the "spotlight."

However, the "feedback" is designed to benefit, not hurt... Even if we did not agree with the feedback we received, the only response permitted was "thank you." I found when that was all I was permitted to say, I didn't spend my time thinking about how to rationalize the weak points of my presentation, or how to justify why I said what I said... I was able to focus on fixing it the next time around.
