Default Blogging both about Poker and Poker Affiliate Marketing counterproductive?

Hi - I'm planning to set up a blog with links to my poker affiliate marketing site.

I'm planning to write both about my success playing online poker and about my experiences as an poker affiliate marketer.

Do you think that this is a good idea or should I limit myself to blogging about how I am playing online poker?
How do you assess the risk that readers will start an affiliate business themselves (and increasing the competition) vs. the opportunity that this might increase the sympathy of the readers (resulting in higher conversion rates)?

Take a piece of the risk, by offering sub-affiliate links, so that any reader wishing to step up and compete can do so with you as a partner, not an adversary. Tie playing and affiliate marketing together, perhaps citing that affiliating with poker sites was a natural way to increase your bankroll away from the tables.

I see nothing wrong with blogging on the both of them.

It can be a good idea, but it depends very much on what you are trying to achieve. I would never, ever spend a lot of time talking about being an affiliate on the same site where I'm trying to get players to sign up, unless it is carefully planned.

If you have a popular poker blog that players/bloggers read, I think there can be a lot of benefits to talking about you setting up a rakeback site (or whatever you are doing). Some players may sign up through you because they like your blog, and some may get interested in the business and sign up as a subaffiliate (in return for something). Or you may get some free links from bloggers who want to help you.

I wouldn't worry about the competition unless you have found some kind of sick niche that is earning you 10k/month. The competitors you may end up creating, is waaaay behind you in the SEO game, and if you inspire them to get started as an affiliate, it is easy for you to get links from them.
