Default AdSense next to poker banners an option?

    Hi,

I was wondering why I see so little (if any) AdSense on poker affiliate sites. Isn't there any revenue to be made there from people that read your strategy articles and bankroll management guidelines but aren't looking to sign up anywhere because they found a room already and only need to learn to play now? Or do you need a ton of traffic and clicks for AdSense to be worth anything?

It's against the terms and conditions of the Adsense program to display Adsense on a poker-related website.

Besides that, the amount of money you'd make from an Adsense ad compared to any decent poker affiliate ad would be pitiful in comparison.

Ah, that explaines a lot. Thanks

Okay, clear. But would there be another alternative for the poker affiliate ads for that part of your traffic that is only there to read your valuable content but would never click one of those banners or sneaky text links to a poker room or rakeback promotion or bonus. Like amazon poker books or something. I mean, wouldn't you want to get as much out of your traffic as possible (without compromizing your quality/integrity/image of course)?

You do want to get as much out of your traffic as possible, but how close you can get to 100% conversions depends on a lot of things. Simply throwing more advertising on a site that doesn't convert well does not sound like a good conversion strategy to me.

Some people do it. I'm not sure how well it works for them. I rarely see multiple affiliate programs on one page in any vertical (outside of poker). The most effective affiliates seem to stay very focused on topic.

Of course, some sites that specialize in diversified content cut across multiple verticals. Such sites would obviously benefit from mixing in all sorts of revenue-generating items but the impact on the user experience should still be taken into consideration.

    Your mileage may vary.

A lot of it depends on the nature of your content. If your poker site has a 1000 word detailed review of 100 different poker strategy books, then Amazon links where customers could buy a copy of each book would make perfect sense. If you have a detailed guide to setting up a physical cardroom in your home, then affiliate links to places that sell poker tables and poker chips would make perfect sense.

But I would target the content very specifically to the affiliate product. For example, I wouldn't put an affiliate link to allposters.com on a page about Phil Hellmuth, but I might for a page about "Phil Hellmuth posters".

And even then, the value of a click to an online cardroom might be much higher than the value of a click to allposters.com. Suppose I have a 1% conversion rate for my Phil Hellmuth posters page, and I make $100 per depositor. And then suppose I have a 5% conversion rate on those Phil Hellmuth posters, but I only make $5 per sale. I'm making $1 per visitor for the online cardroom ad, but only 25 cents per visitor for the posters ad.

That's an either/or situation. Luckily, you don't have to choose an either/or for each page on the site. You just have to choose an either/or for each ad position on your page.

If it doesn't make your site looking too spammy, I think that trying to get more than just Poker Room signups will increase your total revenue, even if it will make you only a small amout of money compared to RMP signups.

I have applied for Google Adsense three weeks ago in order to add it to my blog. However I never received an answer from them and I am unable to login to Adsense. So I guess they declined my application?! This is a bit pity as I would not have made adsense for poker rooms, but for poker related goods (e.g. poker chips).

Anyway, I think that there are other affiliate programs that will generate you more revenue than adsense:

Amazon (I tried this out, wrote a few book reviews and in fact I made my very first 2$ since I am in the affiliate marketing business with an Amazon book sale yesterday)

Ebay also has an affiliate program which looks interesting, but I have not implemented it on my site yet.

I would definitely stay clear of putting any adsense on you gambling pages, as the above poster mentioned this is against Google TOS. You don't want to risk your account especially if you have other legit sites with adsense on them.

Even if it was only poker hardware such as chips, tables, cards or books?
