    Default Mini site problem!

One of my sites is getting really good traffic for a particular room and I would like to develop a mini site based around this as it seems like the logical progression.

However, the company in question does not allow affilaites to use the brand name in a domain name so it's not like I could just go out and buy pokerroombonuscode or whatever .com

If you were in my position how would you approach it? Is there any merit to registering a miss spelling of the poker room?

I know it's kinda hard to come up with suggestions without knowing the site in question but I'd rather not reveal it.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Why not just target it from other existing sites/new sites?

if the poker room doesn't allow the brand name to be used, its unlikely they'll appreciate you using a misspelling of their brand to target players that already know about their room

Just build more content and add articles about that room on your existing site. If it's ranking well, why start from scratch with rankings with a domain name that isn't going to have the room name in it anyway? It's not as though putting the pages on a new domain will have more value in terms of rankings, more like the opposite.

I'm guessing the reason why you want to build a new mini site is because it would seem a bit obscure to build so much information about one room in particular on your existing website? Does it seem easier and more appropriate to put all the information together with a unique navigation on an entirely different website?

In my opinion as far as rankings goes (and in terms of the effort you're going to have to put in to get rankings) it will be far easier to put all the new room-specific content on the existing site. Just be creative with your navigation and your folders so that the section is easy to find and browse around.

It doesn't have to look out of place or obscure if you use you don't want it to. Be creative with the structure and linking and it should be fine.

This is pretty much the exact reason why I wanted to build out a mini site. I mean I have no problem adding a few articles to my news type section ect but covering promos ect only by this room seems a bit weird.

How would you go about structing the new section? Would making it a featured section maybe be the way to go and giving it some homepage space? At least then there would be good reason for it to be there.

To be honest I actually prefer the thought of putting all the content on new domain too, it just seems like the "neat and tidy" way to do things ha ha. However, I know deep down that rankings will be easier on the existing domain and I don't see why it wouldn't look fine as long as it is structured well.

I'm was thinking that you just create a new "top navigation" sort of thing within the content page section for each page in that sub-section, like the top links on this page for example: Texas Hold'em Tips . You can comfortably fit 5 or so links in to the navigation that way and have it look good.

Alternatively you could just throw a list of links at the bottom of the page and have that across all of the pages too in the section, that will do the trick and work just as well for SEO (Don't forget to interlink the articles from within the content).

Basically what I'm saying is to create a consistent new piece of navigation on these sub-section pages so that it's easier for visitors to browse around it.

Don't use a misspelling. Try the initials of the site followed by a word. For example, suppose you're wanting to build a minisite about Bigg's Poker. Launch a site called BPportal.com or BPpoker.com or something like that...

Although launching a minisite that's attached to your existing domain is probably just as good an option. You could just put it all in a subfolder called /bp-poker/ or /bigg-poker/.
