It is that time of year again where gaming affiliates are either traveling to the first conference of the year, or looking at which conferences they are planning on attending. Although I could probably write a book on attending conferences, I wanted to share a few tips that will help you get the most out of your conference experience.
•
Have a written agenda and specific goals – Before you arrive, have a clear vision of what you’re looking to accomplish while attending the conference.
•
Schedule Meetings – Although walking up to booths and introducing yourself is effective, you often find yourself missing the key decision makers at the booths.
•
Don’t blow off meetings – Nothing is more frustrating than getting blown off for a scheduled meeting. It leaves a bad impression and is overall is just bad business.
•
Network, Network, & Network more – Use the opportunity of the conference to network with both operators & other affiliates. You’d be amazed at how many new business opportunities you can uncover by just meeting new people and discussing your niches.
•
Attend the Speaker Sessions – Although every speaker session may not be beneficial to you, be sure to look over the list when you arrive and choose the sessions that will best help your business. Likewise meet the speakers, and don’t be afraid to ask them questions.
•
Have Fun & Be Safe – The most important advice I can give about attending conferences is to be safe, and have a good mix of business and pleasure. In our industry, it’s not hard to find yourself out late and in precarious situations. The good news however that is our industry always does a great job taking care of each other. This is something I am very proud of!
