software idea

The following is just an idea and I am far away from getting an affiliate. I am not sure if this is the right "place" to ask but I would be interested if the idea has some potential.

I would like to get an affiliate for some poker rooms. In order to get people to register and play at these rooms I would provide poker software for them. The software would be something like the well known and available statistics software for poker. The player would get - as most poker software producer do - a 1 year license for free. After that he could register at a different poker room or buy a one year license.

My original intention to write that software was not to get an affiliate. I am a software developer, poker player and do not want to pay for poker software updates.

What I have up to now is just the idea to do it. It is more a long term project which could start getting an affiliate within the next 2 years. I think about it now because writing software for yourself or others is a big difference. Hacking the software for myself would mean that possibly nobody else would use it. But I would finish it in a much shorter time.

The biggest problem so far would possibly to convince people to use my softeware. As a customer I would choose software that is well known and used by a lot of people. And besides the time I would have to spend on the project there would be tons of other software producers who have already a product on the market.

Since I am not realy sure if this is a good idea at all I would very welcome every comment on this.

This concept has been around for a 7 years+ in the online poker industry. It all depends on your software and what makes it different from the dozens offered in today's market. I use to work for SuperPokerAffiliates.com, a online poker software company, which used the same model you plan on. It was successful, but for several important reasons such as quality of product, usability, customer service and sem just to name a few. Good luck, but it is a very competitive market depending on your software.

Thanks for your reply. Maybe it is a hopeless approach to compete with the established software companies.

I guess it will get just some spare time job. At least I will get my own poker stats software which I can program on my own demands. Convincing others to use it is probably the much more difficult part. And maybe it will be much more time consuming than I expect.

If your software is different and good, it will get the attention it deserves...
