A Travel Agent Solution?

so... monetizing vacation and travel traffic is a bit tougher than I thought. It's a pain to even structure parts of my site without having this dialed in. It seems that I'll be losing out with most common affiliate options. I'd love to hear some thoughts on this idea; either partnering with a travel agent or just becoming a travel agent? This might coincide well with my branding efforts for the site... its sort of supposed to be a local authority.

There's not much money to be made becoming a travel agent, IMO. Expedia's affiliate program is probably as good as any of them. You'll make the most money from hotel reservations; airfare and car rentals are really low on the moneymaker chain.

We do some Hotel and package deal stuff on some of our Twilight websites, it seems to work decent when there is a big convention, or fan expo. Not great margins but its a nice "extra" sometimes.

I graduated from the International Air Academy in 2001, and I could have sworn you had to have a 10k bond and ten years worth of exp to operate your own agency, but i read some article on ehow just now that disagrees with those requirements.

Anyway boring work, and didn't seem to pay real well. Hotel affiliate programs do however seem to be a pretty lucrative option. I've seen some poker affiliates use them in conjunction with tournament announcements.
