That is what Im worried about. I don't want to promote anyone that isn't going to pay me full commission for the entire sale. I would prefer to skip the products entirely and just up sell the entire lot if that makes sense.

Yeah in many cases you have no choice though. I've spoken with such programs and asked if we can work out a deal for their other products and have received a firm no each time.

This is why you need to do your homework before applying to a program. All the program details are on the merchant pages in the CJ affiliate Admin.

If you are unsure about anything you can easily email the merchant and ask questions.

For the most part CJ is a solid network.

That's a good question, I think this depends on the merchant. I'd ask this question to the merchant.

I know with GoDaddy's program you can make commissions on multiple sales from the same visitor after the Action Referral Period if the visitor clicks on your affiliate links again.

@ Cooldog - if its non recurring what happens to the customer. Do they belong to xxx store or are they fair game again.

Example - Customer goes to my site, clicks the link and makes a sale. Customer goes back to google a month later, finds site B and orders again. Does site B earn on the second sale or will the store earn 100%. (I hope that makes sense). Just trying to look at this from a rankings perspective and repeat customers.

CK it depends on what you're affiliating. For example domains, hosting etc. people purchase often.. almost all the time you're paid one time for the sale. If someone comes back and orders again via your link you're paid again. If they order via another affiliates link, that affiliate is paid.. if they don't use an affiliate link then no affiliate is paid.

This used to be how a TON of programs were set up back in the day. Now there are brands cutting off affiliate expenses (example: eBay) while others still use this model.

There are times I just grab off the street rates for some random link I am testing out. However, when approaching companies the ones that actually respond man it much be at least 90% who give a higher rate EASILY when asked. In fact it is surprising to find someone not willing. I generally attempt to show them where I've build value for their band that won't easily convert, why i am likely to increase consumers opinion about them, why my referrals will be better than referrals coming from other sites etc. send this in about 4 paragraphs. Companies that don't respond I look for opportunity to replace because figure they don't care.

This is true outside and inside of gambling and its AMAZING how far it goes. One program who was cutting affiliate rates recently emailed me thanking me for years of support (I'm not a large affiliate with them) and bumped my rate higher which was a total shock because I was expecting and willing to take the small decrease if reasonable. I pretty much never US affiliate managers and don't need them.. but for sure: especially outside gambling.. touching base with every program before starting to promote them (unless just testing something out) I highly recommend. Don't matter if it is 30% of $4.00 sale maybe that AM changes to a new company and has you on affiliate list next time and wants to touch base on some deal.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.

I consistently make more money from Google Adsense than from any affiliate program in CJ or GAN. The only exception to this is when I'm able to rank for the brand-name of the company I'm promoting, or something associated with it. But many of these programs forbid you from using the name of their company in the URL or the title tag, so it becomes really tough to find merchants that convert well at all.

I've had better luck with Amazon then CJ or GAN. I've had some merchants from CJ that have NEVER seen a conversion even though I've promoted them for years. Amazon offers a TON of different products besides just books and movies, and they do a great job of converting traffic. If you're looking for an affiliate program for retail, Amazon is tough to beat.

I've had fair success in CJ, shareasale and linkshare. In CJ... there are so many vendors/products and some are good, some are horrible. Unlike RR i have not done much of anything with adsense, ever.

I'm quite happy with CJ, but as everyone says, it's all about what you choose to promote. The best options on CJ are typically companies that give you a reasonable period to close the deal, and on what ever product they end up buying during the period. You may promote product A and the client buys product B. Some programs won't give you that sale, others will. Some programs have ridiculous terms, like a 3 day time limit to buy a $3000 home gym. Obviously, that's a big investement for the average person, and they will typically take the time to research their options. So you would rarely close a deal in 3 days. For payments, you're looking at roughfly a 60 day delay from when you make the sale to when you can cash it out. Read the fine print and you'll be fine. Ask the question if something isn't clear.

I signed up for GAN recently, but have not experimented with it it. I find it annoying to be honest. I have to sign up for stuff without knowing what the commission is. Stupid things like that annoy me.
