    Default Starting a University Forum

I'm going to start a forum for my university in UK over the next couple of weeks. I don't have money on my mind at first hand for this one; this is a project that will literally just be a fantastic resource for the massive population of students and undergraduates at my uni (over 40,000).

Having a graduate help and academic section, where students can finally have a collective online resource for discussing problems and internships will be massively rewarding for both themselves and their future careers. I can also create sections for the hundreds of university societies that are run in manchester, as well as local uni jobs discussions and general socials and nights out.

I think the attention and success this forum will receive once it is built will be MASSIVE. Imagine thestudentroom.co.uk kind of thing.

Anyway, this will be the first forum for me, and in all honesty could be quite a big adventure to say the least. I have no doubt of its success, however would realy appreciate any help, guidance, or anyone who wants to build something big that will reach many people.

I'm planning on a vbulletin forum, have already registered my domains, and now look forward to what I can produce.

Thanks all, really looking forward to this.

Good luck, with it. For a forum to be successful you have to dedicate yourself to its development, marketing, and being active in it almost 24/7 until you get enough activity and users to get potential moderators to help you out.

If a forum becomes popular it will also become expensive to host and most people who run large forums, know alot about tweaking their systems and hosting to support high levels of activity.

However, if you're forum becomes popular you can often get a good hosting company to sponsor it.

Good luck, but it will proberly be a waste of time.
A lot more harder than you think, and your time is better spent at other stuff for sure.

But i hope you make it.
