    Default Datafeed Sites

Anyone ever build a datafeed site or have a site featuring a merchant's product database? I'm not really talking about the Amazon driven, cookie cutter sites, I'm talking something custom here.

I had a comparison site a couple of years ago, totally custom but I was such a php newb, it was a huge server hog. I did make a few hundred $ a month but then gave it up.

I was hoping this might get more discussion. I have thought of building a datafeed site, but I lack the skills.

I was hoping this might point me in the right direction.

I have considered credit cards or travel/hotels for this.

What do you think is a good niche?
How do you know if the data feed is good?(what do you look for)

I swear I replied in this thread already, someone delete it? Yes I've done feed sites for many companies for many years.

    Yes custom stuff, etc.

Nobody deleted anything I'd be able to see if so.

    CasinoMack,

In what categories did you do data feed sites? We have a few clothing and hardware domains and this is of interest to us.

This is the first Ive seen of this.

    Looks interesting.
I dont like the URLs in the demo (ie /store/product/2835113-24618-ls/).

Anyone ever use Datafeedr? Any feedback?

I used to do this for AllPosters on my science fiction network. Generated pretty good sales, too, until they improved the system. They couldn't keep the feed from breaking and I got tired of hard-coding workarounds. Sales plummeted. I finally gave up on the idea.

You can't just build it and leave it in many cases. You never know when the merchant is going to "improve" things.

Datafeedr is an "out of the box" solution. I suppose that works for some people, but I like to make things a little more custom.

Datafeedr = quick and easy, but your site looks like every other site using datafeedr
Custom = more complicated but the code is more robust and I can control every aspect of the site.

More like what categories did I not do.

Clothing, invitations, tools, medical school books, law books, travel books, poker books, real estate books, insurance rates, credit cards, wine, beer, tequila, baby products, diet related books, generic drugs, and on an on.

Eventually many sites got booted from google or the affiliate program either folded/changed terms. Then I restructured everything. I should have kept them the way they were tho instead of moving to domain parking.

I'm rebuilding them back up, but its hard as nuts to get back where I was.
