Guys I don't mean to derail, but I can't help myself...
I do not think it's this cut-and-dry. I know players who run really tight preflop games, and players who are absolute spewnuts pre, and both win; the common denominator that they are both excellent postflop players. Also any "aggressive regs" who are winning 25NL players will move up in short order, or else they have lots of leaks which are exploitable by calculating players. At 25NL it is usually the aggressive regs who are the most exploitable, in any case.
I agree with Trik's decision to teach tight play preflop to newbies; it forms good, ABC preflop habits from which inexperienced players can build. You can tell a beginner "steal on the button w/ a wide range", and he might; but he's not going to know why he's doing it, what to do postflop, how to handle getting 3bet, etc... Lay the foundation first, and watch the castle come up. Also the players still suck @ 25NL, mostly because they pay too much attention to their preflop stats, and not enough to their postflop games.
One thing I really don't understand though is why we're concerned with balancing our range in a game of Rush Poker. We're playing against a constantly changing, random table of players every single hand. Nobody's going to have deep reads unless they took memory lessons from an elephant. Even those who take notes won't have nearly enough to put you on a specific btn range when you're folded to, and etc. Balancing just isn't a factor in rush imo.
Oh, and dugg.![]()
