    Default The Truth About Thansgiving

I just read this on a buddies blog, and I have to tell you, I have full intentions of making the founding Pilgrims proud, with the exception of the English musket.

MYTH: Thanksgiving was a solemn and religious occasion.

    THE TRUTH:
Hardly. It was a three-day harvest festival that included drinking, gambling, athletic games, and even target shooting with English muskets.
I will be firing up the turkey fryer once again this year (seasoning still TBD). Don't be jealous when you're eating your Mom & Dads dried up nasty oven cooked bird.

Here is the wiki definition of Thanksgiving:

I probably wouldn't ask a Native American Indian their thoughts on our Thanksgiving celebrations though..... just saying.

You do realize how dangerous this would be, right? Especially considering we are going to get snow here tomorrow.

Are you kidding? That's the day my ancestors (the Indian guys) were allowed to eat near the same table as my other ancestors (the white guys).

    We're having thanksgiving smorgasbord.

We're having turkey, because after i decided against one, there happened to be one in the deep freezer (a sign?) and ham, because my favorite auntie always seemed to think of her spiral ham as sort of a status symbol.. .

That's it for tradition, no sweet potatoes, noone eats those. No rolls, we forget those on top of the fridge every year... etc..

We're having buffalo wings.. (they're birds..) tortellini (mmm!) baked bannana's (cuz we're going for weird here..) and anything else that we love that's thought to be untraditional :P.

We might could deep fry the turkey .. but so far we're going for bbq, all american . Also, this is Oregon, there will be salmon.

It's all about the brine and how you cook it.

Just getting the butter injection marinade ready and the liquid smoke rub.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Today is the real THANKSGIVING DAY.

I would like to give "thanks" to the great people here on the forum who post great ideas and are willing to help out each other, as well as Tony Romo, who will help to fatten my bankroll today!
