    Default Supplements?

So my new year resolution was to get back weight training, not gone well

I've stuck to my routine this week though and planning to stick to training four days a week for good now. So I wondered what supplements do you guys use, if any.

I use a product called Mammoth 2500 as a weight gainer (tastes good but full of sugars which is bad), I also have creatine from a company here in the UK called Maximuscle. That's all I use, but I tried a No-Xplode sample and it seemed awesome, great pumps and energy.

    So what do you use?

I order all my supplements from bodybuilding.com. I use Cytosport Monster milk for protein supplementation. It tastes great and works pretty well...no bloating, easy digestion. Yes, it's a bit costly but definitely worth spending your money.

Have used many Creatine/NO supplements in past, including BSN Cellmass, No Xplode(the yuckiest taste...still remember that detergent like taste ). Right now I'm using Gaspari nutrition's Super Pump 250. And it's working quite good so far.

    Morning and evening: Protein 85
    Before workout: Kre-Alkalyn (Creatine)
    Directly after workout: Whey2Go

Been working out steady for four weeks now, but only using supplements for the first week. Can't tell if it helps yet, because working out alone make me feel healthier than ever.

Supplements are completely useless if your diet isn't up to scratch. Give me a idea of what your eating on a daily basis, your goals for your weight training and then I can give you a better idea of diet and supplements that will suit you.

lol yeah I know this, I eat potatoes, chicken etc almost daily, I'm 6ft4 and only coming 20 years old in June so need a lot of calories .

I just wanted an idea of what other people use.

    My goal is just muscle/size.

I reckon I should switch from the weight gainer to a good protein supplement, what you think? Just no matter how much I eat I don't gain much, if anything, shopping bill is getting ridiculous lol

Okay, trick to muscle and size is eating regularly. Basically 70% of the battle of seeing a change in the gym is diet. Depending how serious you want to take it here is what a decent diet could look like for someone wanting to put on muscle/size:

    8am Oatmeal
    11am Protein Shake and Banana
1 pm 4 scrambled eggs (4 whites one yoke) and 2 pieces of toast.
3 pm turkey, veg and rice.
    4pm creatine mono-hydrate
(possible no xplode before session) 5pm gym
Post workout protein shake straight after.
    7:30pm tuna, jacket potato, sweetcorn
9pm 150gram tub of cottage cheese with pineapple.

So if you generally have trouble putting on weight I would suggest weight gainer protein shake, otherwise a normal decent quality shake will work its magic. You could also go with protein bars/ meal replacement shakes if that diet looks a little too daunting to start off with. I buy from myprotein.co.uk its the cheapest highest quality supplements around.

Thanks man, I will give that a go too.

I think I will waste the rest of the weight gainer and then just buy quality protein for shakes, Mammoth 2500 tastes great but just all sugars and shit. Also if I buy from myprotein.co.uk i'll be sure to use your code.

When I was bulking I used Reflex Instant Mass. A lot of weight gainers get their calories from sugar, but this gets them from barley and oats. Saw good results, but obviously it's not as tasty as some other weight gainers that use sugar, but that's a fair trade-off.

I'm cutting now and most whey proteins are pretty much the same. I think it would be hard to say that one is significantly better than the other. Still, I like to go for ON Gold Standard Whey because it mixes well and tastes decent.

PhD Pharma Whey is quite possibly the tastiest whey protein ever though, tastes just like a McD's milkshake. The only problem I had with it was that it doesn't mix amazingly well, it can get very foamy.

Just use gold standard whey protein for post weights. As cernus said if your diet is bad, then doing weights isn't going to help too much.

Also if your overweight get your ass on the treadmill. An old myth is that fat magically turns into muscle when you start doing weights/exercising. That's obviously incorrect. If you're fat burn it off and eat right.

Ah to be 19 and not be able to gain weight. I remember those days. Like cernus11 said, it's all about diet. Eat 5-6 meals a day. Make sure to take in at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.

How much do you weigh right now? My guess is that you're a hard gainer like me - tall and skinny. To put on any mass you're going to have to eat (good calories - not crap) like crazy, and lift heavy.

And when I say heavy, I mean muscle failure in less than 10 reps. Also, no cardio. The biggest mistake I made when I was 19 was not educating myself about bulking and cutting. I just went to the gym, worked out hard, did some cardio, took a weight gainer, and just ate whatever I wanted. I couldn't put on a pound of muscle mass.

My best results came when I got serious at 23 when I came across IronMagazineForums.com. There is a wealth of information there, but specificially I recommend these articles:
Guide to Cutting, Bulking & Maintenance [Forums]

    IM's Bodybuilding Mass Routine II

As far as supplements, I use Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey, No-Explode or straight creatine, multi-vitamin, fish oil caps, and ECA stack (ephedrine, caffeine, aspirin) for fat burn/energy.
