Why is the CP useless?

I don't want any private messages but I still get them.

I don't want flags, reputation, tader and location garbage, but I still have it.

What's the point of forcing people to have crap they don't want, or to have CP options that aren't actually available?

Aside from not wanting the high school stuff, I really don't want people sending messages they aren't going to get responses to. Either make the CP work, or don't offer the options.

That's the best example. It's nutty to say "ignore" it. There should be a way to prevent people sending friend requests that are unwelcome in general.

But more to the point if there is an option that says "I don't want to get something", then I should not get that something or don't have the freaking option there.

Either make it so some function works, or don't have it.

I don't think it necessarily is. 99% of the people are not opposed to a private message system or getting emails from other members.

Nonetheless, you can turn off your private messaging and email options as well as signatures, avatars, and images.

Go to the Usercp----->Settings & Options------->Edit Options------->Messaging & Notification

You can turn it off all there.

I think what he's saying is, he's selected in his control panel to disable these things, yet he still gets PMs, etc.

Yeah turning it off accomplishes nothing, or at least doesn't accomplish what it is supposed to.
