Default Should PAL get rid of the reputation system?

I'll leave the first post here open and share my thoughts in the next one.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

I put other because I think it's useful if used correctly. I've spoken out about something maybe once or twice out of close to thousand posts between here and PAP. Don't think it's the right attitude to give -rep when you disagree with an opinion. I think it discourages people being honest or expressing themselves. Nor do I agree +rep should be given for trivial things.

If it's all for a bit of fun and no meaning then there's no point. It should be able to give a rough guide to credible members and some sort of tiny acknowledgement for quality posts.

My opinion is this reputation system has just turned into and "in crowd" type "popularity contest" and doesn't serve and real purpose.

I could care less if I didn't think it also could potentially have a negative effect. In a thread I just expressed how I disagreed with PokerNation giving me negative rep for a post I spent 30 minutes on.

Here is comments from other thread:

My entire post was relative to free speech and I paid someone I paid someone $20 to edit that post for me because I felt it was something I really wanted to say and come out clearly without my normal typo. You disagreed and used a method that would discourage others from speaking freely. Maybe I misunderstood what that button was for but I'm pretty sure its not for when you disagree with someone well thought out expression of their opinion. Whatever though I'm done with that and rep.. in fact if I don't have -100 rep next year I'll be disappointed in myself for having not spoken my mind enough.

Again to me its the principle and maybe I am misunderstanding. Is the Rep button to boost up points for those who post stuff you agree with and - points for those you disagree with. In any case its not so much about this but the fact the thing is being abused. I'm sure Hazo not the type to take this stuff to personal and who knows maybe he'll vote for keep rep. I just feel the way its being used it will discourage new poster while also strenghtening the click thing.

Most here are not even using it. My vote is to suggest PAL get rid of it.

Pokernations single-handedly destroyed the merit of the reputation system.

I have given pokerprop +rep a good 5+ times on these boards. The only time I recall giving him -rep was when he posted a comment about anyone giving in to C&D letters as being "cowards"

I strongly disagreed with that statement because I felt that people like Jeremy, Randy and many others that are dealing with the abuses of the CAP Goon Squad didn't deserve to be called cowards because their tolerance for risk isn't as high as pokerprops.

If I agree with someones post strongly enough on these boards I give +rep for it. That could be because they were helpful to another member, injected some much needed entertainment/humor or had an insightful or well-said post on a specific topic.

Likewise, if someone posts something that I disagree with strongly enough, I dish out - reputation for it. Unfortunately people have trouble dealing with ANY -rep points and feel like they're being attacked, which just isn't the case.

As I pointed out in another post, I have raised pokerprops rep score tons beyond what my one negative rep hit did to him. Had I never given him any rep points at all his rep score would be far lower. So it goes to show that I value him as a member and appreciate many of his posts and input he provides to these boards, even though I disagreed with ONE post that I made note of.

I personally think you folks are blowing this way out of proportion (now where did I leave my -rep button?)

last I checked you were in the top 10 for rep points......... has nothing to do with an "in crowd", you have made some excellent posts and I and others here have noticed it and +repped you for it.

Also, anytime I give + or - rep I leave a comment for the member letting them know why I gave or took away rep points. There's never any mystery to why I chose to add or deduct points.

My rep can be -1,000,000 doesn't matter. Your use of it is abusing its purpose. Its not about give points for someones helpful posts and take points away when you disagree with them. That is just silly, that's the "in crowd" "popularity contest". You'll get negative rep for saying stuff the pokernations doesn't agree with, makes no sense. Not to mention the system is also flawed in the way it operates a group of 5-6 like minded people like each others posts about nonsense boost each others ratings up giving them more rep power. The rating system is silly, but this only becomes worth pointing out when those doing it are using it for other counter productive ways.

I give rep points when a member is helpful to another member, when they post useful content, when they post particularly entertaining content, etc.

I take away when I feel a user has acted rude to other members. How is that an abuse of the system?
