Well, if you look at what started this mess was the "religion" thread which was a horrible idea to begin with, then as the discussion went on, people got pissed off and started throwing shit.. I'm not saying one person did this, I'm saying everyone did just to be inclusive That thread has disaster written all over it from the get go..

Running a forum for a ling time myself, I know that it is one thing to stimulate discussion with a touche topic, but religion and politics is one to stay far far away from..

Anyway, overall I don't feel we need a "thank you" button or a "rep" system.. To me it replaces posts and that's what we should all be doing. Expressing ourselves in posts which adds valuable content to the community.

In private conversation I had with PokerNations I got indication he thought I was upset over something in religion thread - so not the case for me at all. I'm surprised people could get upset in an off topic thread. Anyone who gets worked up in a thread like that would be wise to just not open it in first place, it was pretty well marked.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

I enjoy debating, and it was made clear in my OP of the religion thread that you should be prepared to defend your position. Some people have very strong faith and get upset when their positions are questioned is what I got from that thread.

Regardless, I didn't give anyone -rep for the religion thread for sharing their opinion, nor do I recall anyone giving me -rep in that thread either.

In addition, the members who complained I was abusing the rep system (Hazo, Trikkur and Pokerprop) had all received more +rep from me than -rep. And from what I recall, when I gave +rep last time it was something like +16 points and -rep was only -8 points.

So on the whole all three members had received a surplus of positive rep points from me and only negative rep once each. Therefore my actions boosted all of their rep scores, and I feel they took the one negative rep way too seriously and made it out to be a much bigger issue than it was.

    That being said:

but I like the point that Trikkur made when he said "Anything that even starts to make people second guess posting their opinion should be done away with."
I agree 100% with this and I'm ok with the rep system being gone now.

The thanks plugin is close.. if it could do like the rep plugin does and leave a neato little note for the original poster in their cp, so u can say why u wanna say thanks.. and lead them back to the thread.

I feel all upity though when I use the 'thanks button' Like .. I APPROVE! all publically :P. lol..

Seriously, is discussing rep points even worth a second of our time? Who really gives a shit if we have rep points or not?

Ladyholdem was just stating that she misses being able to leave quick private comments that relate to specific members posts and link back to them so the members know what she's referencing.

The alternative she has is either leaving a public comment on their profile with the url of the post or sending a PM.

I don't think we should bring back the rep system, and I don't really think that's what she's advocating either, she just misses one of the capabilities it offered. There's no reason why she isn't entitled to express her opinion on the matter.

I miss something that does exactly what LadyHoldem describes.

Like a "thank you" plugin that doesn't show the "I'm the Unknown Webmaster, and I approve of this message".

I agree. I miss having at least some method inwhich to say I agree with someone without it being forced into being public. I mean, PMing a person is all cool and such, but that's a pain in the ass. We need some type of method to say "Hey. I liked your post. You rule. lets party." and not get blasted by asshats that disagree with our agreeing to a post.
