Just when it got here, it was gone.

I probably have bent rep init to my own little special cathy plugin thru the last few years, and totally in most ppl'z opinions misuse it on a daily basis.

Whenever I wanna say 'Hey thanks'! without disrupting an entire thread, or .. say gdang man, u'r a rude ass jerk! W/out ruining his sales thread..

or whatever.. whenever I want to speak directly to the person in the post, about a specific post.. I use the rep system, and it's darned handy.

Everytime I come here lately, i remind myself to add it to 4flush, because so many times at PAP I wished we'd had it.

Sucks that it was used to give ppl bad feelings, because it's really awesome for randomly making ppl smile.

The lack of rep caused me not to communicate with so many ppl that I normally would have today.. that I thought I'd post here.. not having rep is driving me freakin nuts.

How about a mini stumble instead? Plugin builders? Don't call it stumble though, cuz they banned me for spam.. go figure :P.

Seems.. I mighta misued their tool in communications with my partner and friends as well .

There's a tool out there for me.. a plugin that just lets me be me.. I know there is!

I think all the problem was created by that -ve rep option. I liked Kurt's response in the rep discussion thread and that is exactly what I think:


As I have stated in the thread where this whole thing became an issue, I'd much rather have the -rep go away and leave the +rep option as a reward where you can let others know in short that you appreciate their ideas/effort/outspokenness/contribution of whatever kind. Any -rep will eventually lead to arguments (especially since we all have different views on what should be "punished" and for what reasons).

A +rep system might help quickly evaluate members that you have less contact with so in an open forum it could be a good tool.

There is a plugin that lets you agree/disagree with a post and leave a little message. It goes on the bottom of a post in a little box. Maybe this would be a good one for PAL. Its better than the thanks button they use at pap IMO. I like that you can leave little messages explaining why you agree or disagree.

lol, that's what beneficial discussions are all about...but I see your point, debates can be taken a little too far at times around here.

Debates can be a good thing.. I've often changed my mind after reading and considering other pplz point of view, and even if I don't sway, I see their position more clearly.

I have seen some pure drama b4 inthe forums to, that were based on business, but came down to 'internet threats' and sillyness, sure we don't need that crap.

But if you guys want to argue about who has the best SEO methods, or what tricks convert the best, I'm down, would love to see some debates going on, and even when I think u'r a nut, but i can tell u genuninley just wanted to help some folks out, i'da gave ya a greenie to letchya know I read all that crap u spent 3 hours putting together.

Im being completely honest when I say that it took me until earlier this week just to find out where the rep button even was. Even after I read the thread about where to find the rep button I didn't see it. This isn't because I didn't look either, I looked pretty hard on several occasions.

The rep system was flawed. You get a group of friends who LOL in useless threads and there rep counts get +, +, + then this gives them more rep power. So when they + or - Each other its x ten of the members.

Get some new member who pots something someone in the LOL thread rep click disagrees with and they get - more than they'll easily get back.

The points are worthless and most don't care, but I like the point that Trikkur made when he said "Anything that even starts to make people second guess posting their opinion should be done away with."

I'm super glad rep is gone. I think it was distracting and could only do more harm then good.

The early consensus when suggested was that the thanks button sucked. I was the one who suggested it, to me it makes sense. Its like saying "I agree" or "thanks for posting that" or "lol" without needing to bump a post with a 1-liner. But, the consensus was its a dumb feature and no one agreed with me so I dropped it.

I also suggested getting rid of the flags and forced display of location, but can't do that either. One of the big issues is what we do is borderline illegal in many place and there are also many people not patriotic. but oh well win some and lose some.

So far won: remove rep system, addition of block in search and new post, better alignment of categories sections, sports betting forum in off topic.
