Long convos in PM's hard to read

Not a huge deal this but when we have a very long convo via PM's the 'reply' comments are 'nested' so by the time you've replied a few times the original posts are just long columns of 1 char per row. Makes it difficult to read earlier posts.

Sure it didn't used to be like this? Or did it? Can this be changed or is there some setting somewhere I'm missing?
