Translator Takes Long time to Load

Living in Thailand now outside the city with a somewhat slow internet connection I notice load times much more.

The first visit to PAL takes me 30 seconds or so each time due to that translator feature with all the flags loading.

I'm not complaining, I can deal with and am used to waits. Just giving you feedback to consider as some of those countries listed that have slower internet a new visitor might X out well before seeing their flag.

Got this message a few times today

"Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/poker54/public_html/forums/global.php(400) : eval()'d code on line 890"

2+2 has a lot of content and works decent for me. PAL is really slow quite often for me by comparison.

Anyone else having these issues. The translator actually has increased traffic and SERPS, however if it is slowing the site down for everyone, I will remove it.

Jeremy, can that translator be added to a regular site or is it a Vbforum only thing.

It can be added to a regular site - WordPress at least. It is called the Global Translator Plugin.

I can always connect to PAL with in 3 minutes. It only takes this long sometimes when it lags / times out etc. Most websites I don't have a problem any longer but few of the busier ones I do. Godaddy is another example of a site I have trouble with.

Most visitors here obviously have fast internet so not an issue for most.

I think it may help with the load time if you began using sprites for all the small pictures with flags.

I disabled it. Site performance and user experience is far more important imho than a fancy plugin. It was lagging terribly for me today as well.

Ha, that's exactly what came to my mind when I read your first sentence.

Thanks for the link UW, I'm going to try implementing sprites on some my sites.

It was lagging hardcore for me today too but I don't think it was from the translator.
