What is Reputation System?

Someone explain to me what this is? I seen people mention giving reputation points and recently after seeing this I seen the button and used it myself. What does it actually do?

It's a way to give people good feedback (or negative) for their actions on the site. The placement of the button for it really sucks though.

But aside from that I don't think it's going to have a huge impact on the usage of this forum. I just use it as a way to let people know their post was good in some way and appreciated.

You should also be able to view your reputation boosts on your user control panel:

There should be a "Latest Reputation Received" in the bottom middle

Just curious what the point of the reputation system in this forum is?

I mean isn't this forum private anyway and most people here are pretty experienced in affiliating. Why do we need some sort of popularity contest going on?

Just my thoughts.
