Default Is the word rakeback being phased out?

I saw a few posts people switching to "loyalty" or "vip" instead of "rakeback."

    Whats the deal with this?

I think that's just referencing the VIP/loyalty programs that some poker rooms have in place instead of rakeback. Like Full Tilt has rakeback, whereas PokerStars has the VIP program for example.

It's not that rakeback is being phased out - rakeback just isn't allowed on most of the biggest sites and networks so the competition is going towards VIP/Loyalty for things like Stars, Party, Everest, Ipoker, Ongame.

The poker rooms give them the loyalty program benefits. We just provide information about the loyalty program to get the player to sign up.

What MJ said. Also, it should be noted that some operators don't allow affiliates to promote their poker rooms publicly on a rakeback site if given site has the word "rake" in its domain (even if the rakeback site has a "bonus offers" or "loyalty offers" section.

That's why most of the biggest rakeback afiliates nowadays add a second smaller site without the word "rake" of rakeback" in the domain name focused on promoting the VIP offers of these rooms in public.

I just bought clubvippoker.com for that reason

I'm pretty sure it's only Ipoker now that doesn't allow it to be listed on a site with rake in the URL.

It's not about the "word" rakeback, and most certainly it should not be "rakeback" that is phased out.

Rather, it's affiliate based rakeback or affiliate based extra VIP incentives in general (see discussion in other thread).

Therefore, most poker sites should actually be fine (and many are) & even encourage their affiliates to call their centralizied loyalty systems "rakeback" and advertise them as such.
