Default Domain Question - 1 word or 2 word domain

This is for non gambling, but the concept is still relatively the same so posting it here in SEO forum.

This is just an example but let's say I'm looking to create a 25-40 page site with good content, clean code, simple navigation that I'll use to place adsense on, include a random affiliate banners and sell and advertisement or two on in the future and am trying to decide between two domains:

    hydrating.org or hydratingcream.org

The cream version is much more specific but also has more serious competition, the hydrating version covers a broader topic and there might be some more areas where competition is weaker and I can target those while also having pages on hydrating cream.

Of course I'm not attached to marketing hydrating cream at all and in fact at this time don't even know what hydrating cream is lol.

I just own a few ambiguous one word domains in .org extension and not sure if they have a significant value (advantage) over a more specific two word domain or not.

A Second Angle to Same Topic

What effects do subdomains have on SEO. Lets say for example my target was the term "Jesus Forgives" but the only domain i have is forgives.org. Would there be an advantage to running the site as jesus.forgives.org with the entire site using jesus as a subdomain or would the one word forgives domain left alone be better - and just using Jesus Forgives in meta and all the onsite seo.

Thanks in advanced for any response.
If you're going to bet US Sports online - I strongly suggest 5Dimes.com or Bookmaker.eu.

Some succeed because they are destined to, but most succeed because they are determined to.

    Just a personal opinion:

I guess it depends on what the actual term is, and how easy it is for the term to get too broad. Too broad will actually it makes it dificult to attrack the target audience.

For example, let's say I want to sell parts for remote controlled trucks. If I go with trucks.com, I'm getting tons of traffic that are actually not looking for RC parts. All you do is manage to generate a high bounce rate with no sales.

If I go with truckparts.com then I'm attracting people looking for engine parts, tires, wenches, mufflers, etc...

If I go with rctruckparts.com then you're still getting some visits from the previous group (Some might not understand that RC stands for radio controlled and may think RC is a company name or something), but you will definately attract the right audience in general.

The more precise you are, the more you box yourself in. It limits your long term potential. That's why I choose brandability over exact match for some of my sites. On the other hand, maybe you don't care about long term flexibility if your goal is to create a 40 page static site. In that case, going with the more targetted domain means traffic will likely be less but the bounce rate should also go down, and the conversion rate should go way up. If you can target the right audience for your products/services, that's a good way to make money fast.

If you can get both domains, you could always redirect the more general domain to the more sepcific one, or vice versa.

Don't let competition stop you. If you've done poker sucessfully, you can probably do anything! lol

Also, in this example, if I had the option to go with trucks.com as opposed to rctruckparts.com, I would go with trucks.com and change my entire approach to fit the domain. Fuck the RC parts, let's sell some serious stuff! OMFGLOL!!11

In your exmaple, if the domain hydrating.org is monetizable by adopting a different concept, perhaps this the best choice after all.
