    Default Blog comment spam

I posted about this in another thread, but thought it may be thread worthy itself. Has everybody else noticed alot of sites ranking for valuable keywords solely through blog comment spam? I have seen it in many of the top poker and casino searches, and have seen it in other verticals as well. When watching Yahoo rankings a few years ago I used to notice this alot, as their rankings were trash and had many spam sites ranked at or near the top. Over the last few months I have seen tons and tons of sites in high volume queries ranking well on Google by using blog comment spam. What gives?

I'm not going to name names, as there are at least 3 members here who are using this now and I've never been fond of calling anyone out.

Yeah, just have a look at the backlink profile of zenrakeback.com.
Does it work? Yes, it worked. Will it work in the future? I doubt. IMO it's only a matter of time until sites that have thousands of backlinks, all coming from blog comments where there are hundreds of other comment spammers, get penalized. Therefore, I would not try this with a website where you have put a lot of work in and which you still want to use in one year.

Just out of curiosity - if a penalty was enforced by google on a site who's backlinks were spammy, could google penalise other sites connected to the webmaster? Like the other sites listed in their webmaster tools account under the same name?

Google doesn't give penalties for this sort of thing. What they do is apply filters to devalue low quality links. And yeah, relying on blog commenting for rankings is a pretty piss poor link building strategy if you want long term search traffic.

Yes. Google has been known to do that for people who operate large numbers of domains (say on the order of 100+), where they have been caught violating Google guidelines on multiple domains.

Generally speaking, if you have 100+ domains and only violate guidelines with a very small number of them, the well-behaved domains should be okay.

Google tries to follow the path of the most egregious behavior when inflicting multi-domain penalties.

I don't see google penalising sites for this ,if they did it is a good way to take your competition out!I have seen zenrakeback.com , easy way to handle this site is drop money into buying good links for the site .I am on vacation until Monday but may consider buying that site .

Yes, although it is more likely they would merely examine such sites and penalize any similar ones. It is very unlikely they would penalize a decent site, but if there are enough sites on the same server and commonly owned, there is a decent chance they would all get hammered.

It is 100% sure Google will eventually penalize these sites. This tactic is a temporary one.

Yeah the same person who blog spammed Zen to the top, did the same with another site, sold it while it was hot, and now the new owner is stuck with a worthless penalized website.

Right now spamming IS working for the short term, better than it ever has it seems. But eventually they will get nuked. It's a cycle that seems to happen annually with various algo updates
