Hi all

Ok, so being honest, I am not the greatest person at SEO and all that jazz, I just try and keep to the usual basic SEO stuff with words, content, Meta tags, H1 H2, etc, etc, backlinking etc.

I know its a big answer, but what the basis of appearing on the front page in yahoo google for a certain keyword or phrase (2 words)etc.

As checking some sites and rankings yesterday, not sure about which sites are best to use or check this type of thing, but using a keyword/phrase which I would have thought is good for most of the related sites, shows me on the front page of yahoo in position 6, which is great. and on google in position 25 which is the 3rd page, which being google I think is great too. Also 1st page on bing.

You had it right at the beginning, it's a big answer. IMO, Google and Yahoo can't be lumped together because they're algo's are clearly completely different. What works on one SE doesn't necessarily work on another. For me, Yahoo and Bing seem to be more by 'accident' than anything else. I'll work my tail off for something and get nowhere with one SE, and rank in the top 10 on another.

This is really just too broad of a question to give you a great answer. I know everyone hates to hear this, but it's so much about backlinks, backlinks, backlinks. Write some good content, then get a million backlinks from as many sites as possible. That always works.

Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks is pretty much how as it goes, as long as you are doing a decent job with on-page optimization which seems to be the case.

I'm pretty much an SEO newbie myself, but I've found a couple things to be useful. You should be sure to go for good keyword-rich anchor text for your links, but be sure to mix it up as well. Tons of links with the exact same anchor text is going to look very unnatural and won't do much for you. It's also good to get links to various pages on your site, not just the homepage.

The answer to that is: it depends.

You can rank on page one for the keyword 'Albanian Omaha' probably in one day; but it may take years of hard work for something like 'online poker'.

Some people say that links help ranking sometimes, some people disagree, go figure.

I have moved up to 24th in google serps.

I have been doing some backlinks, and updating my facebook and twitter every couple of days.

I think it may be luck still at the moment, but whatever it is, it appears to be working, just need to get some players now.

Holy crap, I was just checking my ranking in google and I am now ranking 10 in serps and showing on the 1st page of google for one of my key words/phrases.

Hope I stay there
