This is disturbing indeed, I would have to think someone would think of a way to get some good stats though, probably be worth paying for.
I think most stats programs will still be able to determine entry pages for each visitor, so if you are optimizing a certain page for a specific term, you will be able to get a clue on whether it is a good term or not. I guess this is sort of a consolation because you still can't really tweak things. You could always do a boatload of A/B testing for similar terms to analyze which variations do better, but that's a ton of work.

So essentially that would make Google Analytics useless?

I'd imagine Analytics would be the only thing that could interpret the ids in the new URLs making it somewhat of a game-set-match for G.

Yea I didn't even think of Analytics when I was reading that. There's no way they would cannibalize their own business.....
Although maybe analytics would be the ONLY stats program that would be able to track 100% That would one hell of a monopoly on the stats market.
Where is he getting this information from? I haven't read anything about this from any of the major search blogs nor Matt Cutts.
