Default how to change the countries my traffic comes from?

For historical reasons a site has always been US-centric, but I want to get mostly non-US, English-reading visitors to it now. How do I change where my traffic comes from? Will getting links from non-US sites or hosting it outside the US make a difference (obviously having non-US-focused content will make a difference)?

Hosting it outside of the US will help it get more non-US traffic, and it will also make it load quicker for whatever region you're hosting it in.

Region-centric content is almost certainly more important. Also can't hurt to use the date conventions.

Finally, tell Google who you want to target:

Thanks. There's some good basic stuff on the page you linked.
