    Default Newb G analytics question

    Hey guys

    Quick one for you. If I want to make a goal from a user clicking an OB link (i.e an affiliate one on a given page), I've got the instructions

    Tracking an external link as a goal - Analytics Help

    ..what I just want to check is, am I right in thinking the URL in the onClick,that can be anything I put, i.e. it won't affect the user? So the href stays the same i.e. to the affiliate link, then I'm basically creating a 'virtual' URL so I could have roomreviews/pokerstars/pokerstars.html"? Or does it have to reference a 'real' page name?

    Just want to make sure before I get cracking!

    thanks guys

    You would be artificially inflating your pageview count if you did this for internal links.

    Thanks guys. To clarify, these are outbound/external links (affiliate) ones. so I'm wanting to make goals from users going to review of X site then clicking through on the affiliate links.
    Cheers

    Yeah that sounds about right. It would be nicer if you could track aff link clicks as events, but for some reason events can't be set as goals (only pageviews). So it will increase your pageviews a little, but the benefits outweigh the slightly skewed stats.

    OK problem - using Joomla 1.5.23, when I put the onClick code in, whenever I go to apply/save it completely screws up my text (and the code) like this example

    Any ideas how to fix this? Very annoying!

    thanks

    Think I've sorted this. Looking at the example

    <a href="http://www.example.com" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview("/G1/example.co.uk");">

    Doesn't this mean that the onClick attribute is strying to close after the first open brackets? So I've changed the two "s to 's, hoping it will work!
