Boost Main Page to Rank Inner Pages?

Lets say you want one of your inner pages to rank well for a term. Is is recommended that besides obviously getting links to your inner page, you also get links to your home page as well? (assuming you haven't optimized your main page yet for anything, or don't even intend to)

Assuming you have a good internal link structure yes it would help. But it would be silly not to optimize the home page for key phases, considering it's highly likely the be considered the most important page of your site.

Yes definitely. The more authority and link power your home page gets, the stronger your inner pages get as well. I noticed this with one of my old sites. I never built any inner page links, just home page links. As my home page got stronger, the inner pages starting coming up better in Google. If your site becomes an authority site, all of your pages will start ranking better (even without any inner page link building). Hope that answers your question
