Backlink is also known as incoming link, inbound link, etc. Back link is used to determine the number of page rank by search engine. I thinnk best way to create a back link is write a awesome topic, if peoples are like that than it will be visit your site.

You can build links to your site by searching for pages/sites that are in a similar category and see if they are willing to exchange links with you. You can also comment on blogs and ask for bloggers to write about you. You can even submit articles in exchange for links back to your own page.

In reality there are several free ways to get links to you, you've got to be willing to do some grunt work and send out a lot of emails. You might email 100 sites but only get 10 links in response, but that's 10 more than you had previously. After a while people will start contacting you for link exchanges which makes your life so much easier.
