Default Switching from synchronous to asynchronous code in GA

    Morning all,

I'm looking to integrate GA with Webmasters tools but to do so I need to have the new asynchronous GA code implemented into my website.

Now, I'm happy to just copy and paste the new code into my site footer, but will that any effect on the data that I've already tracked? Is there any reason why this is really not a good idea?

    Thanks for your help,

Two things off the top of my head:

    1) The code is meant to be placed just above the closing <head> tag. Bit of an awkward spot if you don't already have a sitewide include there.

Think it will still work in the footer though, but defeats the object.

    2) The javascript for tracking custom pageviews and events is different. So if you're tracking clicks you'll need to update that onclick javascript on external/affiliate links.

Ah yeah - thanks for that Greg. Hadn't thought about the code tracking my goals.

I don't think changing it should cause an issue though. After all, the data in GA will still remain the same. Updating the code will only change the way that the data is collected and shouldn't touch any existing traffic info that I have.

Could still do with confirmation from someone who knows GA better than me though
