Default Successful vs. Unsuccessful poker affiliate sites?

I've been wondering about this in the last few days. Currently, all of the biggest and most successful poker affiliate sites have either been around for a long time and/or has awesome free content/coaching videos. I then look at some sites with less traffic and notice a HUGE difference in everything.

The successful sites have targeted articles, and a lot of them. They have thousands of pages indexed on Google. Easy to use designs.

The less successful sites have mostly articles describing the latest promos or deals by the poker rooms. They don't have much actual content that add value. And not many pages indexed on Google. And the designs are clustered and hard to use.

I guess perseverance, determination in providing the best content (with vistors 1st, SEO 2nd in mind when writing articles), having a great design and just keep grinding it away is the key to success with poker affiliate sites? Probably sound like an obvious question and I may have already answered my own question. But it's 4.30am and I'm too tired to have a clear thought process... zzzzz

Lot of luck involved. All the things you said matter, but there is a lot of luck involved.

Plus, there are a lot of affiliates making a lot of money that you might never come across - the reason they're making money is because they've found a room / keyword set you've never thought of.

There's more than one way to skin a cat - making the next pokerlistings is not the only way to make money affiliating.

I think mini sites tend to be higher converting but there is a low ceiling for growth and expansion.

Sites like pokerlistings probably don't convert as well as good keyword focused mini sites but have more room for growth since they can leverage their own assets.

When all is said and done I am sure we'd all like to build one really big authority site, the reward is huge if you can get it to work. But it's not realistic to have big visions for every site you make.
