    Default CAL / PAL Class C I.P.'s

We are going to be moving both CAL/PAL to a new dedicated server to ensure no downtime and lag. With the formal launch of CAL this week, I don't think the current server is going to be sufficient.

Here are the server details we are looking at:

    Intel Core2Quad Q9300 8gb 750gb SATA 10Mbps 2000gb + cpanel

My question is, because we are running both sites as "sister sites" essentially, will it be extremely beneficial to have each site on separate class C I.P.'s. As you can already see, there is a lot of interlinking between the two sites.

Maybe it's not even that big of a deal, but I'd love to get some of your feedback. Thanks in advance!

That seems like massive overkill for a forum server

With massive interlinking, I don't see the benefit of separate Class C's. Others may be of different opinion, but if it were me I'd keep them on the same IP.

I may be wrong here, so an SEO guru please chime in if I am, but placing the servers on separate IPs should give a beneficial SEO boost, right?

We are making sure we wont have to upgrade again for awhile.
Plus we are probably going to add more sites to the server later.

We will have 5 ips, so we can use different ips, but Jeremy was asking about class c ips.

Indeed. I'm all for it, especially if this place continues to expand at the rate it currently is. Just be sure to minimize downtime by lowering your TTL prior to getting ready to move it all.

In my experience it's harder than it seems with conected sites (network sites) like PAL and CAL with different c-classes. I can only say what our server admins tell me. But we considered a similar move in the past and didn't do it because it causes too much effort compared to the benefit.
I don't claim that it's impossible, maybe it was just possible at our network and work out great at PAL.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I think we'll just stick with the one server and not worry about the C-classes for now then.

Yep, it's a big server, but I'd rather pay a little more every month and never worry about anything versus having lag or other hosting issues. If need be I can always move other sites onto it to fill the empty space.

My thinking exactly. I've got 1 server that handles all of my sites. While it is a little more expensive, I never have downtime, and I never have lag, so it's well worth it.

Normally you get IPs in blocks of four so I'm assuming you have a main server IP and four additional IPs. Like...

1.2.3.4 and 5.6.7.8-11 or something like that. So put one on 1.2.3.4 and put the other on 5.6.7.10 or whatever.
