It really comes down to how much effort you would like to contribute. Your own network is the way to go but there is a lot of maintenance. Hosts always go down/hacked/suspended. Your sites get Spammed/hacked/injected. Finding relevant domains is a huge pain and prices are pretty high. etc but its a great way for long term rankings.

Building your own network is the better option but also a lot more hard work. It's a much better long term solution.

Default Buying vs link making both works

    hey,

In my opinion , both are okay until we get links from real sites.
Buying links are easy to get good sites and in link building takes alot time.

If you know how to handle the construction of a PBN and have the budget for it, then do it. Although, if your budget is not that big, you'll do a lot better on building some 2.0 properties and hitting them with some SAPE and GSA (properly done) and then linking them to your moneysite.

Have you considered using PBNs to rank your main site?

You can buy niche related links with different IPs for all guest posting sites. This method will help your sites.

Any link buying for rank building purposes will eventually get caught, also if you are buying links there is a chance that site you buy them off will get penalised for too many outgoing links. If you do it you need to make sure you do it away from google's eyes, meaning no gmail or google docs.

I think buying the right sites it okay, but need to be very careful. Its all about the right blend.

Anyone kept a network open for years?

This is what I have been doing. Not just one site, but rather just a select few that my team and I work on daily, getting new and fresh content, videos, plenty of links (inter-linking, inner-linking, and outgoing links) all of good quality content, and our sites are ranking nicely. It took us a while, but we now have profitable sites that keep getting visitors and in the end, that's what matters.
