    Default average content lengths SEO

I like to think I know a bit about SEO, as I have spent countless hours studying it and trying to figure it out. I have a strong passion for marketing, so I guess that just goes hand in hand.

Anyways, I was talking to a well known SEO guy one day about content he was outsourcing to us, that we where writing for his company. He mentioned to me that you should make every single article on your websites different lengths.

Example - never have 100 articles that are all 500 words long. Instead have 500 articles that all vary in length from 400 words to 1000 words or however you want to do it.

The reason for this was because if you have 100 500 word articles or they are all pretty much the same length, then that is a sign that you have had articles massed produced, which in Googles eyes, is not natural.

I have followed his advice, because there is simply no reason not to. It is an easy thing to adapt to, plus I never really put length limits on my content anyways.

What do you think about this?

I think that its pretty sick if google really cares if your articles are around 500 words!

That's very interesting. I would think that it wouldn't matter if you had articles of all the same length. As long as they are all unique it shouldn't matter.

well the 500 words is irrelevant - the point was having all of your articles the same exact lengths

I doubt you'll ever get the "exact" same, and many newpaper articles, especially columnists write artices about the same length every day. It's no particular sign articles were mass produced... it would look weird to humans though to have nothing but very short articles on a site.

I wouldn't worry about something like that. Google has been indexing thousands of sites which for years have had pretty specific article length requirements. I've never seen any of those sites lose rankings because suddenly the algorithm decided the articles were all the same length.

This is just another unproven SEO hypothesis. I'd like to see examples of a site anyone passing out such advice feels was penalized or banned for imposing uniform length limits on content.

Why isn't Twitter banned or penalized? You're limited to 140 characters.
