Is there anything you can do to help static html pages getting indexed faster? What helps them getting indexed faster/what casuses them not to get indexed as fast?

And how frequent you usually update the site they are on...
You can use Google webmaster tools to submit sitemap - but I would go for links...

You can submit your homepage to digg, or just a few articles but make sure you use a sitemap. That way when Google finds a couple of your articles it will crawl the remainder of your site. If you don't use a sitemap, make sure you are interlinking to your homepage.
But also try submitting sitemap to webmaster tools and Yahoo. Also submit the site URL to Google.com and the site URL to Yahoo.com.
All good tips thanks Sebastian.
Anyone else have any tips?

Do you publish content to your site on a schedule? Is it clear what your publishing schedule is?
If getting my static pages indexed quickly was important to me, I'd have a clearly labeled "updates" section on the site where I linked to my new content from. I'd probably also point out (link to) my new content every time I published it from posts in my blog.
Getting links to your internal pages couldn't hurt either.
Do you submit an xml sitemap to Google every time you have a new page updated? This can also help along with linking to the page from an established and indexed page.

if you publish content on a regular basis try using a "XML thing" and ping a lot of blog services. This will speed up the proces.

Thanks for all the input everyone. For the site I'm thinking of I don't really have a schedule for when I publish my content, as I do it pretty randomly. Great idea on the blog Randy, I was thinking of adding a blog to the site and that may be my motivation to do so.
I have just started updating my XML sitemap every time I add a new page but I won't be submitting to Google every time, only when it hasn't been crawled/downloaded in a while. Is this a good way to go?
