What tools do you use to find keywords

Im creating a MMA site with some good friends that want to get into affiliate marketing.

What do yall use for search terms and totals for your sites or pages?

Google's keyword tools work pretty well. There's also Keyword Discovery and Wordtracker if you want to spend money.

We have an article in the latest iGB Affiliate Mag (prev called CAP Mag) on SEO tools by Allan Stewart, Director of Comparison Angel affiliate network and under key phrase anaylsis he suggests the following:

Trellian Keyword Discovery - An old tool, but generates a good selection of key phrases

Wordtracker - Costs some money but there is a free trial offer. A good source of well searched "real life data" based key phrases

Google AdWords Keyword Tool - Its's more useful than you might think at pulling suggestions

Good Trends - Well, you want to be trendy right? So see what's hot and driving traffic today and include it in your campaigns

Good question. I tried Wordtracker and tbh I found it extremely poor for poker related content. Maybe I was using it incorrectly, but I tried searching in several poker niches. Has anyone experience using a keyword tool in the poker domain (succesfully using).

Honestly, nothing beats a combination of brainstorming and looking over referral logs when it comes to keyword research.

although I use wordtracker alot I have to agree with Randy Ray here. I like wordtracker because it will show you any obvious low hanging fruit that you may have missed on your own that would be so simple to add to a page and rank for that it's no brainer not to.

I have used WordTracker and Keyword Discovery in the past. I didn't find them particularly useful and wouldn't pay to use them again. I still use the free WordTracker version, which can be helpful. But I agree with Randy - do some brainstorming.

Like anyone else I use the adwords tool, google trends, google sets, etc, etc.

But I agree with Randy that using existing referral logs is a good way to find keywords. Of course, this requires having some existing sites, but I like to use my existing sites and look at click volume over a long period of time (ie, 6 months+). Then I correlate it with ranking data and I try to figure out what would convert well.
