Default PR0 is as high as I will ever get what difference does it make anyway?

The title kind of says it all. I have to say that I now hate SEO more than anything else. More than having a route canal, more than paying taxes and more than sucking my own eye balls out with a straw.

You see I just don't get it. I have over a 100 page website, I have 'SEO'd' the pages, keep adding content, blog about the site, have links in forums that I participate in, comment on others blogs, auto signatures, am in directories, particpate in link exchanges, etc, etc.

After all of this I have a PR of 0 on every single page, I keep tweeking the site, getting all ready for Google updates just to find out that it was all for nothing.

The funny thing is that I rank on the first page of Google for some of my search terms now which is great and I'm getting thousands of people visit the site a month which is also amazing. So my question is this, can you become an authority site, ranking highly for many terms yet never have a PR above 0??

What difference does it actually make to have a PR? I'm starting to not only question how you go about getting a better PR but I'm starting to question the relivance of a PR full stop.

What difference will I see if my site ended up as a PR 2 compared to how it stands now at PR0?

Granted this seems like more of a rant than anything else but undernieth the frustration lay genuine questions.

Yahoo shows you only have PR0 links pointing to your main page, so that means you will only be a PR0.

PR is simply a mathematical representation of the link power of a page. Comments and forum links are all basically useless, as they should be as you are just voting for yourself.

You can rank for stuff with a low PR domain, but the core of search engine algorithms is link power. To be an authority site (in the eyes of a search engine) you need to be respected (linked to) by sites that other sites consider authorities (by linking to them).

In your case, for your site to do better you need links to it from other people, not ones you place yourself.

Be results oriented... Focus on the fact that you're ranking for terms!

OPC is right. With some of my sites I don't give a damn about bad PR. They rank very well where they are supposed to rank. That's enough.

Would it make you feel better if your site had PR3 but the traffic dropped a little? When you are SEO'ing your pages you are aiming for higher rankings, not more PR in the toolbar.

Don't worry about it. If you wake up one morning and see your site has gone from PR0 to PR3 you are not going to see an increase of traffic, your traffic will be the same as the day before. AS 321 said, your site's PR comes from other PR links pointing to you.

    Thanks guys.

I guess a question that I do have is; I've just got onto the first page on Google for the term 'free poker training' but I'm right at the bottome of the page. Now if I had a higher PR would that have no bearing on how high I appear on said first page?

But yes your all right, I'm happy that I get traffic and appear in google at all now but just raking my brains to get to number one.

Broker if you are getting page 1 in this short time you are doing well. PR is not as important as your positioning.

I managed to get a PR3 at 1st update after a site was built without any inward links and very little seo. The domain was completely new too, it was not picking up on a previous usage! How does that work then?

    PR is not that important.

Although if you want to sell links and ads it could be a problem.

seriously you say you are getting thousands of visitors a month through search terms but your seo work has been all for nothing?

rethink that. the little green bar doesn't matter in terms of how much traffic you get. If you had PR3 that does not mean you would rank higher for any term that you rank for now. Seems like people care about PR for a year or two then move on to caring about more important stuff.

Yes I get anywhere from 2 - 3000 visits a month so I'm still small fry compared to a lot of sites but then six months ago I was lucky to get 200 in a month. lol

I guess from a future prospective I'd like to have some advertising on my site which is worth nothing if I am PR0 and also wondered what direct impact this may or may not have on my search results.
