Sitewide Links - Have they lost their value ?

Hey guys,

Talking to some top affiliates, they told me that sitewides have lost in value and that Google may discount them.

Does anybody have any opinions on whether sitewides still carry value? Personally, I think they still do.

Would some of you prefer just a homepage link from a trusted site instead of having a link from every page, because Google may lower value of sitewide links now ?

I personally will take incontent any chance I get, sitewide just screams "I bought this".

It depends on the site. Probably any site that has not previously deployed sitewide links has a good chance of passing value (assuming it hasn't done anything else).

Sitewide links are not technically a violation of Google's guidelines. And it may be that since most Web pages have insufficient PageRank to pass value anyway, Google doesn't care about sitewide links as much as it might once have.
