Webmaster tools and my computers not the same ranking for my site???

Hey guys

I've just got google webmaster tools working on my site and I've noticed something that I'm trying to clear up.

On my and several friends computers, my site is number one in google for a few search terms that I've been working on.

However, I don't get the kind of traffic that I was expecting and in google webmaster, it's says that my position is 9th?

Could this be that I am number one in the UK but maybe not the world, or America, etc? I wonder if anyone could help?

The site is Free Poker Training Videos/ Poker Lessons and one of the terms is 'free poker training videos' (not the most high volume of my terms but the first one that I apparently ranked number one for so thought it would be the best test)

Maybe someone in the USA could google it for me and let me know where I fall to ???

Google Webmaster Tool show some kind of average position by default. There are a button to select rankings for fx. google.com in the settings.

It's strange because I use the .com version as I felt the majority of my audience would be American and on my computer it shows up as first??? as well as three of my friends.

I read somewhere that Google does change results based on localised aspects but I'm on an American server and want to know where I rank in the whole world?

Is there a site that gives acurate info on where you are in the world?

Are you signed into gmail when checking the your rankings...its not uncommon to get a different result depending on which database the results are coming from

Additionally, if you are in fact signed in, you... or perhaps someone within your network has bumped certain sites up in the search. I know that I did this a while back and had to make sure I was signed out before checking search results so that I got a true reading.

I am in the US. I see you ranked 17 for the term in question with quotes and 13 without.

I wonder also because my site is .co.uk instead of .com, .net or .org if this is bumping me higher for results in the UK and making it harder for me to climb the ladder in other countries???

The .co.uk domain "could" be making it more difficult to climb the ladder in other countries. If you're looking to target other countries from your .co.uk site, I seem to recall a thread here discussing geo-targeting that might be of use, which would help you rank in other countries, in theory. If I find it I'll post the link.
