    Default .info domains

    Hey guys

I'm trying to get a handle on .info domain names in as much as are they worth having/ developing?

What's the difference between .com,.org,.net and .info?

Sorry if this is a blindingly ignorant question, I promise to be the one to answer it in the future should anyone else ask. lol

The .info feels very spammy since Godaddy started offering them at $0.99. I dont think i have ever seen a .info domain go for over $100 in auction on this forum so the value is pretty low.

I'm not too worried about selling them on but for example if I owned onlinepoker.info or pokerdownload.info are they worth building? by that I mean will they rank as well as .org, net or com with the right content, SEO, links etc?

I think .com, .org, and .net are the best three extensions...

Not too sure where .info ranks

I have seen a .info ranking well for a decent keyword without any sick SEO, so I'm fairly confident that they are capable of ranking if you do the normal linkbuilding and onpage optimization.

I can't seem to find it, but it was basically just a blog about books that were in the top 5 for "best fantasy books" or something like that. I didn't really care about the subject, but it caught my eye since it was a .info with a decent site that seemed to rank well and get traffic.

I don't buy .info domains, since I associate them with worthless spam sites.

Yeah I am sure you can get a .info to rank with proper SEO either way, but my first choices would be .com, .org, or .net as I think they have a little bit of a head start in the SERPs.

I do not believe .info will effect SE ratings. I have had many .info domains, and many other extensions. I have never seen evidence the extension had an SEO effect.

.info can effect visitor trust. Because there are so many spammy .info sites, and because it is an unfamiliar extension.

I do agree on this. These 3 site extensions are the most reputable and trusted ones.

.info usually be seen in blogs. Most of the sites I see having this extension are SPAM.

Personally, I will not recommend this one to you. Better look for others.

There is no SEO advantage to use .info top-level domains but they don't seem to be as welcome in some search verticals as the more traditional top-level domains. I suspect there may be some heavier filtering there because of Webspam abuse.

If you have .info domains that are working don't worry about them. If you want to try a .info domain I would consider buying a fresh one rather than a recycled one, but some domain names may go back into the freely available pool if even domainers are not interested in them.

So, what site extensions will you suggest to us? The most reliable one maybe.
