I am a bit curious by nature, and I was wondering how you know the cause given that pr has not yet changed. Were there similar cases elsewhere?

I thought my site was banned, or penalized, it wasn't. It was just an error with a WP plugin.

If you have this plugin, and you're not diligent about using it, and u'r having serp trble, deactivate, see if that solves the problem.

More important than PR, i'd lost just about all rank. The first few minutes after I posted something new, I'd rank for it, then It'd slip away. I still got a lot of traffic from google news, so I did ok, but as far as google organic, not much.

I did rank for '4flush' so no one was sure if it was a penalty or not.. then there was some test that apparently confirmed penalties available for a few hours one day, and it was 'confirmed' that I'd had a penalty all along.

Then I did some tinkering late late one night, and I uploaded the Platinum SEO Plugin, it was waaaay to late at night, so I'd disabled all in one, but not yet enabled Platinum.

By morning, I was getting traffic for some old terms that I used to get.. and I started checking serps, and sure enough, they were back about where I remembered them..

Second page for poker news, 3rd or so for online poker news, page 9/10 for online poker.. tons and tons and lots n lots of longtails like a news website should have ! These of course fluctuate a bit, but there are a few sites I pretty much always see on the same page as me, if I'm right there near Poker Ownage, I usually know I'm on the right track :P.

... I should add that most all of my sites over the last year went PR0 and lost their rank.

So I starting changing the others one at a time.. deleting the ALL In One SEO Plugin. ...

And one by one they started reappearing towards the top end of the serps.

I should add that this is a highly recommended plugin by some of the affiliates here a lot smarter than I, and if I'd ever used it correctly i may never had all of these problems. I have a bad habit of not filling in all the boxes when I add new posts.

I'm really interested in what others think of this, Wordpress is at that point for me where I'm tired of constantly chasing down a plugin that failed, or a plugin that's causing duplicate, etc etc etc.

Thx for the articles, but im still confused. I dont have WP in a subfolder but i have quite a few sites which have had drops in PR that i thought was odd.
But if following the advise in the last article, i should be good!
All in one SEO Pack configuration step-by-step | SEO | SEM | Internet Marketing | Jack Leblond (great for noobs like me)
I will experiment with a few sites and disable the plugin, and use the advise on how to use the plugin at other sites.

It's always good to double check your blog plug ins in order to have a more efficient blog.

You can also post it in forums and ask for assistance in developing your site/blog.

I got that way a while back and decided to start eliminating plugin's that weren't 'really' necessary. Now I'm down do just 4 essential plugins for mini-sites and life is gooood!

On bigger sites, I'm keeping the same attitude. Although they need more plugins and options, keep them to a minimum and stop fiddling so much with every plugin that comes out. Find the good ones and leave it at that.

Try getting a little more naked...it feels good.

On mini-sites, the only ones I use now are:

1/ All-in-One: I've tried the others, didn't care for them, haven't had any issues with it personally. Reliability and simplicity is more important to me for mini-sites.

    2/ Google XML Sitemaps

    3/ Redirection

    4/ WP Database Backup

And that's it for my mini-sites! Of course with bigger sites that allow comments you also need Askimet, possibly cforms and a couple others. But do you really need Lightbox? Do you really need Polls? There are so many 'cool' plugins that cause more headaches and maintenance than they are worth imo. Get rid of the maintenance and you'll have more time for content and play time.
