I guess you mean people used black hat techniques to dominate a niche? This happens all the time, its how loads of people making their money. Although with no proof I'm not sure what you can do apart from battle it out and improve your site, update it everyday for a few weeks and hope to see changes.

Always fight for your income.. unless of course you don't need it, or have some other means to support yourself. It really sounds like you're asking us to say it's ok to snitch, or fight dirty, or do what you gotta do to get #1 back. That's not really up to us..

I always try to treat my competitors with respect and kindness, or ignore their existence unless I have a reason not to.

I have met up with a couple of my competitors, who I had quite low opinions of, and they turned out to be great guys.

It's more like my ideas have all been taken over by these guys and they now have several different web sites attacking each of these keywords. I guess it is to vague to really understand. It's just one of those really annoying things that you have no control over, but your money is cut in 1/8.

There is nothing rude or underhanded about that. Keywords dont belong to you, whether or not you were the first person to find that niche. If you know something converts than why aren't you covering that subject? If you don't take hold of the market someone else will, and there is nothing wrong with having multiple websites targetting the terms that convert players. Sure it sucks to see somene else dominate but unless your just as active as they are, you really cant complain. This is assuming that your upset because they are building websites specifically targetting those terms and nothing else.

This business is cut throat and we all have a daily fight with each other. People check out my sites, I check out theirs, etc. They expand on some of my plans and out do me, and once in a while I turn the tables on them. It is competition and you have to be on your game.

There is a reason so many of us work 18 hours days 7 days a week, because that is what it takes to get ahead. While you are resting and checking stats, I'm expanding on keywords and getting links. If I take a break, I expect you to do the same thing.

Like kaus said, you never own niches or KW's. If you want to be on top, do the work and never except being just #1 for a KW. Try and be #1, #2, #3 etc and fight for the whole f'ing first page. There is several great KW's where I own more than 50% of the 1st page in google. So if competitors want to come after it, they have to fight 6 of my websites for it.

In the end, it sounds like you are a bit soured and its a tough awakening in this biz. You need to put in some more time and re-take what was once yours. Don't settle for JUST being #1
