Default Moving content to a new domain

    Hi there,

Having just purchased a new domain, I'm looking at moving the content I'd written for an old site on to this new site.

Do I need to do anything other than set up a 301 Redirect from the old page to the new page? I'm obviously trying to avoid duplicate content penalties.

    Thanks,

Just an advice: to avoid penalties in having duplicate content, kindly delete or change the old site contents after transferring all you contents at the new one.

I have a similar issue where I obtained a .com domain that is very similar to the one I have a site on now. Do I have to 301 redirect every page or just the domain?

Had to do this a bunch of times the last months, one other thing you can do is notify google via Google Webmaster Tools > Site configuration > Change of address.

For us such changes had just slight effects on keyword rankings, but sites lost pagerank completely, one site was PR4 and it's reached just PR2 three months later, now I had to move it again . Where possible change the backlinks you got too.

Ok getting ready to do this for a smaller site and will do a 301 redirect for each individual page. Want to make sure I have the right code for the .htaccess file. Is using the code below the best solution?

    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html

    Yep. Looks good.

Quick tip: To help organize your redirects in case you need to work through them in the future for whatever reason, you can add comments by starting a line with a #. Can make your life easier. For example:

    # -----Strategy Pages-----

    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html
    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html
    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html

    # -----News Pages-----

    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html
    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html
    Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.mysite.com/new.html
