Default How is Everyone Getting so Many BackLinks?

Well I have been looking at many poker websites in yahoo site explorer. I have definitely noticed that most high ranking sites have plenty of links pointed back to their domain. My question is how is everyone getting so many quality backlinks from other poker websites?

When I go visit the targeted site I see only a few outbound link exchanges, so obviously reciprocal linking has not been used.

Are most of you buying links? Maybe this is where I am going at it wrong? I have avoided this to not get penalized. I do some links for content exchanges as well as a few reciprocal links.

Are you just linking from other sites you own, doing 3 way link exchanges? PM me or post here if you have any tips.

    Thanks for the help.

Say yes when people offer you free links and blogposts...

But more seriously, yes alot of successful sites proberly buy link whether they admit it or not.
Small 5 pages bonus sites dont just get pr4 out of the blue.
Im curious as to how much you need to spend to get a boost you can really see when you buy links.
I havent really tried that yet.

Quantity of backlinks is a useless metric in my opinion.

Some people have thousands of links from sitewide footer placements, but these links may not even pass value.

At first I wanted to get as many links as I could, but I soon realized that this was the most crude form of SEO you can possibly implement.

There is definitely a correlation between quantity of links and SERPs ranking if you look at the top sites, but this is natural.

If you are careful, you will notice sites with much less links relatively speaking, that rank extremely well.

The question isn't how to inflate my quantity of links.

The question is : Where to get quality links that pass value to my site ?

But if you want tons of links, I would recommend article marketing using some mass submission software. You could also use various techniques such as creating software and linking back to your site in the metada file, etc.. These techniques aren't great though.

First, you shouldn't be spying other people's backlinks. People like me work hard on that and I don't appreciate people stealing them

Second, links are links. Get them everywhere you can but always start with quality links/relevant links.
You'll find hypocrites talking "seo". Buying/selling links is worst than blackhat stuff.

This is gambling industry, instead of linking to your content people will have it rewritten that for their website

Hahahahahahaha....How are you stealing links when viewing others backlinks? That doesn't make any sense. And Im sure many will agree that part of doing well is checking out your competiton...regardless of the industry you are apart of.

Im not the most experienced guy out there, but from my understanding, links are not just links. It does matter where you link to and receive links from.

Either one can get you banned, right?

    How does that make sense?

To OP: Im in the same boat as you are. I see some sites that are much newer than mine with 1/3 the content ranking better than me for my kw's. I cannot say it is all due to backlinks (probably several factors) but I have been reading up on different backlink tips. Some that I found are:

Writing letters to other webmasters asking for links or link exchanges
Write articles in exchange for links
    Directories
    Signatures
    Etc..

The list really goes on and on and Im not experienced enough to say what works best, but what is stressed the most is quality over quantity as Sebastion mentioned.

Sebastian is absolutely right and answers the OPs question already.
It's ok to look at Yahoo backlinks in seo toolbars but that's no indication for a good backlink portfolio. One of my sites has over 1 Mio Yahoo backlinks but 99,9 % from one site.
If backlink quantity would be a great indicator then I should outrank Pokerlistings and all that guys easily

I'm not sure I have ever seen so much bad advice stuffed into one post. Well played. I hope this is a joke.

And to add something to this thread besides snide remarks...

One of the best places to find links for your sites is from your other sites. This doesn't help newer webmasters all that much, but it should provide you motivation to create a quality network of sites, and friends who have sites.

Networking is huge in both your own content and your social/business network.

If you're talking quantity, the number of domains linking to you is far more important than the number of total links pointing at your site. Sitewide links skew the Yahoo link total quite a bit for many sites.

I guess I will slowly do what I have been. Link exchanges and content for links from quality related sites.

Not sure on the whole buying links thing.
