How important are back links nowadays? Does anyone know of a way to get alot of back links out on the net efficiently and fast? Perhaps a program or robot that scours the internet looking for pages where links can be traded or exchanged or even posted for free? What can be done to get back links out quick?

That strategy will lead your site to its doom...

A lot of social media sites fit the criteria you are describing. However by itself, a social media page isn't worth much in terms of link passing value. It needs to have backlinks itself and be do-follow.

Anything automated is bad news. Cheap directory links appearing all of a sudden in the dozens will get your site flagged, and these links suck.

Start by getting a handful of quality links:

• submit your site to premium directories: goguides, Joeant, Best of the Web, etc...
• create good articles with your backlinks and give them out to serious webmasters
• Get a few social media links without the no-follow tag
• Do a few link exchanges with quality sites
• Article marketing, etc..

Also make sure that the pages linking to your site contain some relevant keywords if possible. Not just a page with a link, like for some social bookmarking sites.

If you would do that, blackhat SEO, you would get pretty easy sanboxed by google. Instead I suggest to link exchange, post your website into social network places, make youtube videos with your link on it, etc etc.
