Default EDU Spam All Over The Serps

    xxxhttp://www.alumni.umn.edu/vertical/american-express-amex-online-casinos.html

Shit like this is ranking all over the serps for casino terms, is this new?

I'm new to that side of things, but it's definately spam. What I don't get is why there is SO MUCH of it in the serps, I was under the impression edu spam like this got nuked pretty fast but I guess not.

Not new but seems to be really bad recently, you can find the same things is the poker serps if you search the right phrases.

Nice wikipedia backlinks on this one

It'll be found eventually, I wouldn't want a link from something like this. Definitely a bad neighborhood.

I've seen things like that for at least the past month. Really I've found serps to be absolutely horrible lately - not just for gambling, but everything, especially with google. I found myself using Bing over the past week when searching, the first time I've used an alternate to google for personal searches for many many years.

I mean I'm seeing hacked sites showing up on the first page that had been hacked for at least 2 weeks, empty directories, random pages from archive.org, forwarders, everything.

Spammer likes EDU sites and try by every mean to have a link on it.

The last thing that i saw was spammer generating false visitor from their site to have their link in the top referer list of EDU sites.

Same here. I have to type in bing to even get there, when I have a google toolbar. It feels unnatural .

The tricky part is, if I can't find what I'm looking for using the way I search.. I might have to rethink the way I optimize for other people to find me if this stuff keeps up no?

I've seen empty directories too, how that shows up on page one is beyond me.

Could be that hackers can now have the ability to duplicate .edu domains. Hmmz.. gets you thinking. Spammers have entered a entirely new domain.

Hackers cannot fake EDU domains. EDU Web servers are notoriously wide open to hacking. It could be some subdomains are being hung off EDU DNS tables but I haven't run into any.

Google and the other search engines have most likely seen people in the SEO community complain about these types of spam pages but apparently they haven't yet figured out how to filter the pages without penalizing highly valuable university Web communities.
