Did you notice anything unusual in the index for your site? Or the pages that were removed? What were they? post pages or archives or something else.

I would also try and submit a sitemap to Google via webmaster tools

A sitemap and joigning google webmaster are good ideas, as it tells you how many submitted pages you have and how many index pages you have. Normally only a fraction of pages are indexed, but more than the 20% you got. If you had 100% indexed earlier, it would have been abnormally high also. As Google's policy is to only index a fraction of each site's pages.

hi guys have about 2800 pages all up and i add say 2 to 3 pages per day. I had about 1500 pages for the last 3 months and in the last few weeks it has dropped to 400 pages, dont really do any seo work on the pages there video clips. Looking a bit closer in the matter i went through some old posts and about 50% off them had been banned by espn etc, so im thinking this could be the factor. just havent got time to go through 2800 posts lol

You have some 302-redirects because of unusual URL naming conventions. For example, your monthly category pages don't end with a terminating slash (which is okay) but if I append a slash to see what happens (some of your internal links use the terminating slash) I get a 302-redirect, which is a temporary redirect (search engines won't follow it).

This affects crawl, which in turn affects indexing.

Did you redesign the site or implement a new template in the past few months?

What do you mean by "banned by espn, etc."?

Hi Michael i checked the permalink custom structure and it was showing /%postname% so i have now updated it to /%postname%/ hopefully this helps. I did add a couple of pages to the site, but it is mainly all posts. one of the error messages i get form say a 12 month old post is this video has been removed due to terms of use violation. thanks

I don't think the ESPN video is a search engine issue. Now that you've fixed the URL structure, just wait to see if the site crawling improves as you add new posts. You might also want to link back to some of the older posts as an occasional recap or reminder when a repeat topic comes up.

Advice from me, you should work more on links to your site - strong links b/c your site is weak. You've got 36 sitewide external links which passes most of your linkjuice away...

Is your answer to every question to get more links? Links aren't as important as you make them out to be.
