Google +50 penalty for a single page?

So freaking annoying. I finally hit the 1st page for a good $$ term I have been targeting, and after 3 days at 8-10, I am now at #62.

I have not done anything shady. I pointed a bunch of internal links to a set of pages - This one included. The other pages that I pointed the same # of new internal links at all are still ranking, but this one (the best one) has dropped ~50 spots. The only thing I did differently is point one extra external link at this particular page. Nothing out of line at all.

Has anyone experienced this? Everyone knows that entire sites have had +50 penalties, but one page?

I'd give it time, it might not be what you think it is.

it may not be a penalty...I have bounced around 50+ ranks with out changing a thing.

One of my sites dropped around 50 spots a couple weeks ago aswell it was sitting at #12 for a keyword and then all of a sudden it dropped into the #50's,but over the next week or so it worked its way back up to #12.

The day it dropped I exchanged links with someone who had an auto link exchange not sure if that was the problem or not but I have noticed a few times before after exchaning links my sites dropped cant remember if they were also with auto link exchanges or not.

So what is the best course of action? This is an important page for me. Should I continue to slowly build links, or just sit tight and wait for it to come back to 'normal' before messing with anything?

Firstly, did you register the domain with a name that sounds like a "black man" ? This is often overlooked but Google checks Whois to see if the site belongs to a minority. j/k I'm not racist.

In all seriousness though, I recently had the homepage of one of my sites (the one you PMed me about) completely banned for 1 week. It wouldn't show up for anything, xxxwww.sitename.com would still work but sitename.com and sitename would return absolutely nothing under Google (not even after page 15)

But the site came back, lol, and stronger than ever. This is what I did, I simply erased all the content on my homepage including all outgoing links and it insta-popped back up even with no content. I guess I was linking out to far too many sites or that my keyword density was too high, no idea really.

I have something of the kind happening, i tried for months to get up for terms like "noiqpoker review" and "noiqpoker bonus" and i had some blogspot and other self hosted sites giving some links to my review. all good for the first week and i disappear. I keep updating the blogs i linked and has the main post get archived, one day im at 3# and i did NOTHING... with the recent news about noiqpoker moving network i make 2 articles relating to this mater, in 3 hours im 3# in google for the query "noiqpoker leaving iPoker", i then decide to link to that news from one of my blogs, it disappears and my blog gets the 8# position while my main site gets pushed out totally.... i cant understand much of this myself. I sometimes get the feeling the more you try to make it good on off page stuff it breaks the balance or something...

I've had the 50+ penalty a few times on random pages (not on whole site) - sometimes it just goes away and the page comes back better than ever, but if it still hasn't shifted after a week or so and it's an important money term I would 301 redirect to a new page. BTW I'm not saying this is a penalty cos it seems to me to be more like google hiccups but a 301 normally sorts things out if you're desperate.

Mostly though if you just leave it as it it is will return to former position soon enough.
